May is when you regroup. Celebrate the successes from the prior year. Shake off any lingering disappointments and insecurities that are holding you back. Take on the constructive feedback from Region 21 contest. Dream big about where your chorus can go next. Install the leadership team that will take you there. And maybe deftly map out the path ahead.
You might look at our calendar and imagine it’s a “quiet” month—no conferences, seminars, no trips or shows—but we at VHC know that this month is pivotal. Now is the time to identify our very particular goals for the near future. Building on our growth over the last two years with Melanie Jewel at the helm, and incorporating the judges’ feedback from contest, we have resolved to work on (1) our unified sound, (2) singing to the end of the phrase, and (3) synchronization. Now is the time to establish the specific tasks—good habits—that will move us steadily towards those goals. To this end, we can be found spending more time on sound-focused warm ups together, in sectionals to get each section unified, and in (yikes!) star quartet formation. Because you need visionaries to keep you on mission as youstrive for the next level, we installed this year’s leadership team on the first Tuesday of the month. Steering us this year are Kaidee Metcalfe (Team Coordinator), Kelley Purkey-Vacheron (Logistics Coordinator), Alicia Hernandez (Financial Coordinator), Ann Grannan (Secretary), and Heidi Bridges (Member at Large). You go, Team! If you want to catch the vibe of a chorus moving up, we just might host a guest night this summer. Please come join us! - Tabitha Woolpert
